Jack Lee Akers, 91, a resident of Greenwood, SC, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024. He was born on April 1, 1933, in Twin Branch, WV to the late Claude and Marie Cochran Akers.
Jack led a fulfilling life as a retired automobile salesman. He was a dedicated member of Ninety Six First Baptist Church and had previously served as a deacon at Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley, WV. Jack's commitment to serving others extended beyond his church community as he was actively involved as a Gideon and a member of The Golf Club at Star Fort. Additionally, Jack honorably served with the U.S. Army.
In addition to his professional and community endeavors, Jack cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Esther Israel Akers; daughters Karen Martin of Greenwood, SC, Connie Highlander (Sean) of Shady Spring, WV; son Zachary Akers (Selena) of Greer, SC; along with 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Lee Akers; brothers
Ronald and Billy Akers,; sister Joyce Akers Williams.
Jack will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his community and country, and for the kindness he showed to all those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Karen Atha officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Bud Israel conducting the committal service.
