Irene StClair Pigg, 92, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012. Born October 2,1919 at Epperly Hill, WV, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Della Gray StClair. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus Pigg and siblings, Ray StClair, Elsie Saunders, Cecil StClair,Roy StClair, Mary Hall, Garnet Deweese,
Irene was the granddaughter, daughter, and wife of coal miners. She grew up, married, had two boys, and spent her twenties and thirties living in the small communities surrounding Beckley, West Virginia. In 1959, when her husband, Cletus, died in a coal mining accident, she decided to leave West Virginia and join her adult sons and their families in California.
For the next thirty-eight years, she lived in Santa Clara, California as grandmother to both Roger’s and Jim’s children. In the role of Grandmother, she taught her granddaughters how to cook West Virginia style and camped with her grandsons in Yosemite National Park. She took vacations in Hawaii and returned to West Virginia often to spend time with her sisters and brothers.
In her late seventies, Irene retired to Florida to spend her last years with Roger in Jacksonville Beach.
Looking back on Irene’s ninety-two years, one can say she lived life to the fullest. She road in model T’s and attended Space Shuttle launchings. Witnessed many wars and celebrated many victories.
Reunited with Cletus and her family who have gone before her, she is now rejoicing in paradise.
She is survived by sons, Roger Allen and James Pigg; one brother Sidney St. Clair & wife Dixie of Blue Ridge, VA, and one sister Eunice St. Clair Clark of Fairdale, WV; grandchildren, Pamela Carpenter, Michael Allen,
Michelle Jordan, Lisa Pigg, Tommy Bruner, Vanessa Lucas; great-grandchildren, Andrew Allen, Madison Carpenter, Rily Allen, Kellen Allen, James Council, Jamie Council, Sherita Council, Jacqualine Council,Kyler Ivey,Hanna Monneyham, Rodney Lucas, Ryan Lucas.
Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum #2 with Pastor Terry Hatcher officiating.
