Ira Sopher

Ira Berman Sopher, 94, of Beckley passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018. Born June 3, 1923 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Thomas Sopher and Bertie Wasserkrug.
Ira owned and operated Best Furniture Co. He was a member of Temple Beth El, Beckley Moose Lodge and Raleigh County Historical Society. He was a fifty year member of Beni Kedem Shrine Temple , Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 and Scottish Rite Masons. Ira loved his family, golf, cooking and eating. He loved to shop, always ready to tell you about the great deal he'd found followed by a good joke.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold and favorite uncle, Aaron.
Ira is survived by his wife Mary Jo Sopher; sons, Tom Sopher and wife Teresa and Joel Merritt Sopher and wife Shelly all of Beckley; grandchildren, Max, Kate, Aaron, Bryce and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Tucker.
Services will be at 11 am Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Joseph Golden officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial park. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 5-7 pm.
Beckley Masonic Lodge #95 will conduct graveside rites and serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donnations be made to the Temple Beth El Preservation Fund, C/O Beckley Area Foundation, 129 Main St., Suite 301, Beckley, WV 25801
