Hugh E. (Ed) Hall, 78, of Beckley, formerly of Oceana passed away at Bowers Hospice House Friday, April 24, 2009 after a long illness. Born June 21, 1930 at Twin Branch, WV, he was the son of the late Milton A. and Jessie Slavey Hall. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Novella Temper of Columbus, OH. Ed served two years in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He retired in 1994 from Kopperston # 2 mine, Eastern Associated Coal after thirty eight-years. He attended Cross Point Church of God and was an active member of the YMCA.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-three years, Louise (Lou) Cook Hall, son, Stevie at home, daughter, Treasa Brunty and her husband Vondie, two grandchildren; Sean Udy of Los Angeles, CA and Lindsey Baer of Beckley. In addition he leaves several brothers and sisters in law; Marie Toler (UJ), Vondie L. Cook, Sr. (Jannett), Lola Lamb (Jim), Kay Toler (Earnel), Ray Cook (Mildred), Debbie Cook Hodges, Janie Cook (Scott) and Patty Cook (Herb), several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Vondie L. Cook, II, Vondie L. Cook, Sr. and Dr. Ken Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time of Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be grandson, Sean Udy, son-in-law, Vondie Brunty, Nephew Jamie Taylor, special friends Chuck Ross, Dave Bone and Mike Shepherd.
