Howard Dennis Holt, 74, of Beaver, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in a Beckley hospital. Born March 12, 1936, in Sullivan, WV, he was the son of the late George Allen Holt and Mary Elizabeth Surface Holt. Howard was a proud West Virginia coal miner, retiring from Eastern Coal. He was a member of Maple Fork Baptist Church and UMW Local 9781. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and West Virginia Mountaineer fan. Howard loved the outdoors and spending time at his camp on the Greenbrier River He was a lifetime resident of Raleigh County.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Janice M. Holt, brothers and sisters Ottie Cecil, Arlene Cable, Major Holt, Magdaline (Maggie) Miller, Henry Holt, Grace Gillespie, Leoma Cecil, Ross Holt, Jack Holt, Francis Holt (Fox), Bernice Bolen, James W. Holt.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Sumner Holt, sisters; Eva Tingler of Coal City, Joyce Bolen and husband Rev. Kepple Bolen of Coal City, and Wilma Ray of Princeton, WV; brother-in-law, Seth Bolen of Coal City; 97 nieces and nephews, and 191 great nieces and nephews, he was the proud poppy to John Randal Godbey of Beckley.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Maple Fork Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Barley and Rev Jim Bowyer officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
