Helen Jean Bragg Lutes passed away peacefully October 2, 2021 at Sunrise of Baton Rouge at the age of 89. Born on July 11, 1932 in Pluto, West Virginia to Azel and Allie Bragg, she grew up in Beaver and was spied singing in the choir at the local Methodist Temple by the love of her life, Jim Lutes. They married and moved to Texas ultimately settling in Houston where they raised two daughters. Widowed early, she retooled herself, becoming a real estate agent and Master Gardener. She adored her granddaughter Kate and was an intrepid traveler. She had a beautiful voice and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed holidays, entertaining, and was a thoughtful giver of gifts. She had many lifelong friends. Helen was strong, charming, and independent. She was a delight to know and will be greatly missed. She leaves to celebrate her beautiful life her daughters Sharon Werner and Teresa Lutes, son-in-law Chris Werner, granddaughter Kate Werner, brother James Robert Bragg and sister-in-law Margaret Bragg, nieces Courtney Chlebus and Rebecca Bragg, nieces Kendra Johnston and Kelly Bragg, and aunt Norma Smith, among other dear friends and extended family. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Susan Richarme and the loving caregivers at Sunrise of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be held at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, West Virginia beginning at 10:00 am on October 14, 2021 until services at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Memorial gifts can be made in Helen’s memory to the Companion Animal Alliance (Baton Rouge) or the Baton Rouge Food Bank.
