Helen Margarete Bonham Lytton went to be with her Lord Jesus on October 6, 2021. She was the daughter of the late C.K. and Stella Wickline Bonham. Born on September 12, 1935 in Glen Daniel, WV, Helen graduated from Shady Spring High School, Trinity College in Clearwater, FL, University of Charleston with a BA in English and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Marshall University.
Helen taught in Logan, WV, Elyria, OH and retired from Raleigh County in 1989 after 31.5 years of service. Helen was born again on May 31, 1952 at Ghent Baptist Church. She has been a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church since 1958. She attended First Presbyterian Church of Fort Myers, FL in the winter. Helen was extremely active in her church and in her community, serving as a former Director of Baptist Youth in Raleigh County, former Sunday School teacher, Deaconess and Choir Member. She volunteered with Helping Hands, Senior Friends and also tutored at the Salvation Army. She was a church volunteer with the Harry Chapin Food Bank, formerly a chaplain at the Florida Hospital Heartland, in Sebring, FL. She was a Charter member of the Raleigh County Historical Society since 1969. Helen was also the first woman elected to the Board of Trustees at the Crab Orchard Missionary Baptist Church. Helen was a missionary, serving abroad in South America and Haiti. She and her beloved husband loved to travel and visited many countries, but her favorite place was the USA. God Bless America!
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; James, Kellis, Lawrence, infant brothers; Frankie, John, and Everett Ray, nephew Butch Bonham, niece Pat Hall, and great nephew Chad Ferris.
Those left to mourn, but also to cherish her memory, are her husband of nearly 46 years, James Clay Lytton of Crab Orchard, WV and Fort Myers, FL, sisters; Kathleen Childs, Bobbie Ferris (Gene), Ruth Peters (Wayne), and brother Don, all of Crab Orchard. Her loving Lytton family and many special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Helen was a very special Nana, and will be greatly missed by Brandon Carpenter, Katie Carpenter-Ware, Emily Bernard, David and Kathryn Weisbrodt, Bella Kate Ware, Colton Carpenter, Cindy Grace Bernard, Raylynne Ware, and Abigail Carpenter, whom all loved her dearly. Helen also leaves behind a great host of dear cousins and friends.
Helen's Celebration of Life will be held at Crab Orchard Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 12th, with visitation to begin at 12:00, service beginning at 1:00. Pastor Dewey Lowe will officiate, with eulogies by nieces, Cindy Carpenter and Beth Weisbrodt and special music by Milton Clay. Her loving nephews will serve as Pall Bearers. Arrangements are being handled by Calfee Funeral Home.
