Helen A. Lewis

Helen A. (Walker) Lewis, 85, of Shady Spring, WV went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2012 while at the Bowers Hospice House. Born August 19, 1926 in Josephine, WV she was the daughter of the late Stralie and Nada Meadows Walker.
Helen was the owner and manager of the S&S IGA Foodliner in Beaver, WV for many years along with her late husband. She was a former member of the Raleigh County Democratic Womens Club and also the Beckley Moose. She devoted 10 years of service to Raleigh General Hospital’s volunteer program. She was a Stoco High School graduate with the class of 1945. Helen loved the Lord and was a member of the Open door Church in Shady Spring, WV for many years.
Her passion was her family and taking care of them or anyone else that she felt she could help. She loved to attend gospel sings, play golf, hunt, fish and go shopping in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Sterling T. Lewis, Sr. as well as her brother Johnny G. Walker and her sister Avilee Mann.
Left behind to cherish her memory, her only child, Sterling Lewis, Jr. and his companion Deborajean Hudson. Her granddaughter, Courtney L. Lewis and her grandson Sterling “Dusty” Lewis and his wife Kimberly Hatfield Lewis, along with their children and her great grandchildren, Sterling “Cade” Lewis and Aliva Hatfield.
Her family would like to thank the staff at the Villages of Greystone and also the Bowers Hospice House for the excellent care that was given to their loved one in her time of need.
Her services will be held at the Calfee Funeral Home on Saturday, March 17, 2012 with Pastor Randy Smithson officiating.. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate her life from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral to begin at 12:00 p.m. Her burial will take place immediately following at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandson, Sterling “Dusty” Lewis and family friends; Gary Nichols, Tommy Okes, Jimmy Shannon, Josh Barber and Johnny Peplowski. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandson, Sterling”Cade” Lewis and family friend Frank Rakes.
