Hazel Josephine Horwath

Hazel Josephine Horwath, 100, of Beckley, passed away January 4, 2014. Born June 23, 1913 in Lester, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Elizabeth Hawley Ellison. Besides her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Horwath; a son, Louis Everett Horwath; brothers, Otie, Andrew, Arvel and Edward Ellison and a sister, Mildred Webster Ferguson and two grandchildren.

Hazel was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church where she helped with the nursery, enjoyed singing with the senior choir and loved taking trips with her friends from church.

Survivors include her sons, Edwin Horwath of Holly Springs, MS, Jimmie Horwath of Granada Hills, CA, Richard Horwath of Beaver, WV and David Horwath of Stonington, CT; daughters, Ellen Dunford of Mabscott, WV, Fran Dawson of Warren, MI and Sue Cantley of Beckley; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Calfee Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Dr. Charles Bright will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
