Georgia “Ruth” Rakes 86, of Maple Meadow passed away Monday July 2
She led a quiet, humble fulfilled life caring and sharing for her family. Her gentleness and her surprising wit will always define a part of the beautiful woman who we have been blessed to call mother. She has left a lasting impression on our hearts forever.
Born June 22, 1926, in Maple Meadow, she was the daughter of the late George Fleet and Pearl Vina Cochran Davis. She was a homemaker. Ruth attended the Lester First Church of God. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed pets, flowers and family gatherings. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Reed Rakes.
She is survived by a son, Roger Rakes of Lester; three daughters, Treva Wahl (Donald) of Maple Meadow, Peggy Trent (Larry) of Dover, DE, and Ramona Irvin (Pete) of Maple Meadow; grandchildren, Roger Dean Rakes, Jennifer Ann Gibson, Ronald, Daniel and Jason Wahl, Jeff and Brian Trent, Sarah Birchfield and Holly Irvin; Great grandchildren, Emily, Ashley, Brandon, Halie, Alyssa, Amanda, Kelsey, Kimberly, Zackry, Mackenzie, Jesse, Kylie, Taylor, Hailey, Isaiah, Cyrus, Levi, Mareya, Madison, Miranda, Myles and many beloved special cousins.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 4th at the Lester First Church of God with Rev. Dale Birchfield and Rev. Verna Leadbetter officiating. Burial will follow in the Calfee Cemetary in Mt. Tabor. Friends may visit with the family from noon until time of service on Wednesday at the church.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Lester First Church of God or to the Bowers Hospice House.
