George Andrew Thornley, 67, of Beckley and Titusville, FL, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010 at Bowers Hospice House following an extended illness. Born May 9, 1942 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Peter and Ethel Bodo Thornley. George was co-owner of Mallimar Truck Parts. A big part of George’s life was being the “CEO” of the Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1960 and spear-heading their scholarship fund drive. He loved antique cars and spending time with his grandchildren whom he dearly loved. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Thornley.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Mallamas Thornley, daughter, Elizabeth O’Donnell and husband Larry of Orlando, FL, son, Michael Thornley and daughter Kathryn Thornley both of West Palm Beach, FL, grandsons; Nathan and Ryan O’Donnell, sister, Karen Crump and husband Andy of Beckley, nephew, Kenneth Glaize and wife Connie and their son Austin of Richmond, VA, and his aunt, Verna Bair of Marshalltown, IA
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
Classmates from the Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1960 will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be “George’s Harem” of ladies that assisted him in planning WWHS Class of 1960 reunions and scholarship drives.
