George A. Campbell, 91 of Oak Hill passed away June 11, 2016 after a period of declining
health.
Born February 19, 1925 at Kaymoor (Garten), WV to Elmer G. and Ethel (Easterling) Campbell,
was one of 13 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and he was the last surviving member of
that family.
George married Betty Pashion on September 7, 1947. Mrs. Campbell survives.
George was a veteran, having served in the Navy during WWII. He returned to Fayette County
and worked in the coal mines for a number of years. He was an ordained minister and served
several churches as pastor, interim pastor, speaker, Sunday School teacher, and song leader.
He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time at the Campbell brothers’ hunting
camp in Greenbrier County. He will be remembered for his ability to communicate with anyone,
making friends everywhere he went. He was always eager to share what God had done for him
and what God could do for them.
Reverend Campbell was preceded in death by his parents, 11 brothers; Alfred (Betty), Arthur (Helen),
Cecil (Grace), Charles (Euva), Claude, Fred, James (Francis), Leonard, Paul (Vivian), Raymond, and
Seabert Campbell, and 1 sister; Rosa (Campbell) Williams; also his wife’s parents, Mitchell and
Rosa Pashion; brothersinlaw, Mike (Billie) Pashion, Edward (Gerelene) Pashion; sistersinlaw,
Thelma Toney, Mildred (George) Cowan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Timothy (Tim); one daughterinlaw,
Sherry; one granddaughter, Chloe Reanna Campbell; and two grandsons, Twain and Shaye Campbell
of New Bethlehem, PA; sistersinlaw, Nancy Farmer of Pearisburg, VA, Hazel Campbell of FL,
Linda Campbell of SC, and Vivian Campbell of Oak Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Cross Point Church Of God with Rev. Vondie Cook, II officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
