Fred Acord

Arnel Fred Acord, 94, of Crab Orchard passed away Friday, September 29, 2017. Born April 17, 1923 in Slab Fork, WV he was the son of the late Bill and Frances Cook Acord.

Fred worked as a preparation plant operator at the Slab Fork Coal Company for close to 40 years. He was a loving father who always put family first and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.

Besides his parents Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Eleanor Acord; sons, Larry and Elmer Acord; daughter, Connie Cole; brothers, Lowell, Jim, Basil and Everet Acord and sisters, Charlotte Manerva, Thelma Ruth and Jesse Lorene Smith.

Fred is survived by his sons, Gary and Arnold Acord; sisters, Eunice Roop, Edith Acord, Billie Jean Davis and Willie Roe along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Artie Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Acord Mountain Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 2 hours prior to the service on Tuesday.
