Frances Lola (Pettit) Conner, 97, of Mabscott WV passed peacefully to be with her Lord Saturday, December 28, 2024. Born in Leevale WV on August 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Denver Voil and Birdie Ann (Burdette) Pettit. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dallas Franklin Conner; two sisters, Gracie Smith and Vivian Sweeney Atwood; four brothers, Grant, Denver, Carl, and Gene Pettit. She is survived by two sons, Roger Lee Conner and Dallas Wayne Conner and his wife, Linda “Lynn” (Lilly) Conner; grandson and his wife, Drs. Benjamin and Kelly Conner of Clemmons NC; granddaughter and her husband, Valerie and Jason Conner of High Rock Lake NC; granddaughter, Laurie Conner of Webster NY; two great grandsons, Corben Dallas Conner and Ryker Tiernan Conner of Clemmons NC. and special friends, Debbie and Jesse Brown.
Frances grew up in the mountains above Winona WV with her immediate family and many cousins. She always talked fondly of her childhood. She had a bright, positive, joyful personality. Everyone who knows her would agree.
Frances was baptized at Fitzpatrick Park Lake at about the age of 34 and was faithful to her Lord and Savior and to her church. She taught Sunday School for over 30 years and loved singing in the church choir. She was also involved in Ladies Prayer Group, a group of Christian women doing many works for the Lord. Frances visited hospitals and nursing homes for over 50 years. She was involved at Mabscott Elementary School during the time her sons attended there, serving as a home room mother and also acting in school plays. She was a godly witness to her family, friends, and neighbors.
Frances lived 27 years after her husband's death. She enjoyed traveling and took bus trips with her sisters and friends. One year she was even able to watch fireworks at the Statue of Liberty in NYC. Frances and her family loved to camp together, which they did at least once a year for many years. She and her brothers and sisters were very close.
Frances lived by herself until she was 95 years old. She had attentive assistance the last few years from four wonderful ladies, Brittany, Megan, Tiffany, and Velda. One of her recent favorite sayings was: If you live long enough, you're going to get old. In September of 2022, Frances moved into assisted living at The Villages of Greystone in Daniels WV where she had excellent care and flourished. She enjoyed socializing with Greystone staff and residents. Her outgoing, witty personality won their hearts. Staff fondly told of Frances moving through the halls during evening hours singing hymns...sometimes she would stop at the nursing station and ask: Can I get a cookie?
Frances and her brothers and sisters loved to laugh and loved each other. I am sure they are having a wonderful reunion in Heaven.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Villages of Greystone and Mabscott Baptist Church for their loving support.
