Miss Evelyn Ann Farris, 94, of Beckley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 03, 2017 at Greystone, where she had made her home the last four years.
Born January, 15, 1923, Miss Farris was one of ten children born to Gus and Jamile Salem Farris. Miss Farris is survived by one sister, Florence Boisse of Manchester, New Hampshire and several Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Alice Farris Lynch, Felix Farris, Joseph Farris, Elmer Farris, Isabel Farris, Helen Farris Hayes, Dr. James T. Farris and Dr. Frederick P. Farris.
A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Beckley College, Miss Farris spent her career in the family business, Gus Farris Department Store, where she worked until the store’s closing in 1991.
An avid cook and hostess, Miss Farris was known for her entertaining skills. She hosted many dinners and gatherings for family and friends where her native Lebanese dishes always found a welcome audience. She was a seasoned traveler having made her way around the globe. Evelyn was a member of the Laurel Business and Professional Women’s Club, Catholic Daughters, and a life-time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
The family expresses sincere appreciation for the kindness and love shown to Evelyn during her stay at Greystone.
A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 622 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, on Saturday, May 06, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Very Rev. Paul Wharton, V.F. officiating. A Rite of Committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
