Ernest Lee Allenbaugh, Jr. of Beckley, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Bowers Hospice House. Born June 19, 1927 in Tourison, WV, he was the son of the late Ernest Lee Allenbaugh, Sr. and Ula Kathryn Sledd. Ernest was a retired mechanical designer/builder. He had worked at Beckley Manufacturing Company, Houchins Block, and Instrument Transformers (Florida). Ernest was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, US Navy Veterans Association (National and WV Chapters), Leisure Lanes Bowling Leagues, Fayette and Raleigh County Genealogy Society, Senior Friends, and American Legion. He also served in the US Navy. He grew up in West Virginia, lived ten years in Florida, but spent the later years of his life in the Beckley.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife Rita Allenbaugh.
Survivors include daughter, Sherry Smith and husband Joe of Parkersburg, WV; son, Mark Allenbaugh of Beckley; sister, Mary Waycaster of Tampa, FL; brother, Joe Allenbaugh of Enumclaw, WA; grandsons, Ryan Smith and wife Ashley of Parkersburg, Zac Smith, also of Parkersburg, and Mark Williams and wife Amanda of Oak Hill; great grandchildren, Marc, Taylor, Madison Williams of Oak Hill; sister-in-law, Peggy Wiseman of Beckley; cousins; nieces/great nieces; nephews/great nephews; and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, 800 South Oakwood Avenue, Beckley, WV, with Dr. Robert Stoddard officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. Sunday until time of service.
Pallbearers will be Joe E. Smith, Ryan J. Smith, Zac L. Smith, Mark Williams, Brandon Matics, and Marc Williams.
