Eileen Wray Barney Rahall entered eternal life on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House where she spent her final days surrounded by her loving and grateful family.
Eileen, known as Butter to her friends and family, was born in Beckley, WV on October 22, 1932 to Amerigo and Mary Barney who immigrated to this country from Italy.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was additionally preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike G. Rahall whom she married in 1951, her young son, Jeffrey Mark Rahall, her grandson, Michael G. Rahall III, and grandson-in-law, Kevin Martin. Also, preceding her in death were her brothers Pierce, Pete, Joe, and Bruno Barney and her sisters Alma Woods, Mary Owens, and Helen Walker.
Eileen was a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting Nana. She loved her family fiercely and was always there for them. She was a longtime member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Those left to remember her and honor her memory include her daughter, Eileen Washburn and her husband Fred, her son Mike G. Rahall II and his wife Lynette, granddaughters Melanie Martin, Christy Rahall, Ashley Washburn, Jennifer Henderson and her husband Sean, and grandson Colton Rahall. She is also survived by five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to thank Sarah Plumley, Eileen’s friend and helper of many years, and Bowers House Hospice of Southern WV for their wonderful care.
Services will be held Friday May, 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with visitation at the church one hour before the service.
Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Southern WV or The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
