Edward Stansbury

Mr. Stansbury served as a B17 tail gunner in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1945. While on a mission, his plane was shot down behind enemy lines and he was held as a prisoner of war for nine months. Due to his injuries he received trying to return to allied territory after the crash, he was awarded a purple heart.

After his tour of duty, he attended law school at West Virginia University, where he graduated in 1950. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the Raleigh County Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He was admitted to practice law in all of the Circuit Courts of West Virginia, as well as the West Virginia Supreme Court and the Federal Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. He wasa retired member of the law firm of Anderson, Bridi, Stansbury & Associates, L.C.

During his tenure as an attorney, he was appointed City Police Judge for Beckley, and served as a Divorce Commissioner for Raleigh County. He was well known and respected as an expert throughout southern West Virginia in the area of real estate and title work. He was also a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and Loyal Order of Moose.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Stansbury, his mother, Theresa Pownall Stansbury, three brothers; Charles, Robert and Herbert Stansbury and wives, Margaret Stansbury and Bonnie Stansbury.
