Edward Lee Campbell passed away September 19 at McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Welch.
Ed is a descendant of Beckley’s Founder, General Alfred Beckley and John James Beckley, first Clerk of the United States House of Representatives and first Librarian of Congress. Ed proudly shared his heritage with all who would listen.
Born on April 7, 1947, his parents were Beckley natives, Anna Lee (Hedrick) and William Robert Campbell II. His brother Bill, (Katharine Ann) and niece Mary Kay and nephew Rob survive.
Ed’s life was challenging as he strived to adapt to traditional lifestyle. Unfortunately, his limited cognitive skills and mental illness would trip him up.
Always open to new friends, he sometimes was led astray.
Later in life, he found stability at two personal care facilities, most recently McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Welch.
A highlight in his later years was a visit to Disney World. For three days, he enjoyed sharing meals with Disney characters, particularly Snow White, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.
Ed’s Celebration of Life is Saturday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, with Dr. Bob Kirby officiating. Internment is private.
