The Lord called home his beloved daughter, Dorothy (Dottie) Sue Black, on Friday, February 16, 2024, following a long illness. Dottie was 74. She was born December 26, 1949, in Leslie, WV, to David Ray and Dena Lucille Douglas Black, both deceased.
Dot grew up in Sophia. She worked for the United States government her entire career, lastly with the Department of Education. Upon retirement, Dottie moved to Beckley and lived with Donald and Barbara Black.
Dottie enjoyed a host of friendships. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She was an avid reader and loved watching movies, sporting events, and television, especially her soaps. Dottie was devoted to her family and her dogs. She enjoyed family cookouts featuring West Virginia hot dogs.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna Rye and Doris Mullins and Donna’s husband Bill Rye. Dottie is a cherished member of her family and will be greatly missed by her surviving siblings: Diane Harris and her husband Russell of Stanaford; David Black and his wife Judy of Beckley; Dean Black and his wife Becky of Stanaford; Donald Black and his wife Barbara of Beckley; Doris’s husband Joe Mullins of Cool Ridge; and her nieces and nephews and their families.
Calfee Funeral Home made Dorothy’s arrangements. At her request, a private Celebration of Life will be held for her family at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
