Doris D. Collier, 97, of Stanaford Acres in Beckley, passed into her heavenly home on Wednesday , September 2, 2015 at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born August 2, 1918, at her home on North Kanawha Street, she was a lifelong resident of Beckley, WV. She attended Central Elementary School, Beckley Junior High, Woodrow Wilson High School on Park Avenue, and Beckley College. A faithful follower of Christ, she was on the cradle roll at First Christian Church, where she attended most of her life, and more recently, has been an active member of The United Methodist Temple of Beckley.
Her husband of 59 years, Fred C. Collier, passed into heaven in 1999.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents, John T. (former Postmaster of Beckley) and Ida Feazell Hollandsworth; and brothers: Jack (Tommy), Tom, Denny (Bertha), and Bob (Nancy); and sisters: Edith Stover (Trenton), and Mae Martin (Red).
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Martha Sue Rizzo (Robert), and Rebecca Collier Doman (Daniel); grandchildren: Robert F. Rizzo (Kylie), Jeanna Mancini (Ron), Karen Sue Hensell (Charles), and Sally Ann Woodard (Brent). Great grandchildren are Kai and Mia Rizzo, George and Jack Mancini, Maggie and Ella Hensell, and Tristan and Liam Woodard.
She was adored by nieces and nephews, and her dear caregivers- Audra Mastrippolito, Tammy Harless, Anne Toney, and Linda Swaggerty.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 5, 2015, from 10:00 a.m.to 11 a.m. at The United Methodist Temple, followed by a memorial service officiated by Pastor Randy Adkins, also at the church.
Pallbearers will be Robert J. Rizzo, Robert F. Rizzo, Kai Rizzo, Jack Mancini, and Brent Woodard. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Doman, Richard Collier, Charles Hensell, Tom Hollandsworth, and Leon Hollandsworth.
Donations of sympathy may be made to The United Methodist Temple, 201 Templeview Drive or The Raleigh County Library, 221 North Kanawha Street, Beckley.
