Doff Harold Patton, age 98 of Harper Heights, West Virginia, passed peacefully into eternity on December 21, 2024, fulfilling his heartfelt wish to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His passing, which coincided with the Christmas season, was a moment he had long anticipated, and on that blessed day, he entered into eternal rest to be with his Savior.
Born on June 17, 1926, at Patton Farm in Eccles, West Virginia, Doff was the son of the late Roy and Myrtle Claypool Patton. He graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1945 and worked at several local businesses, including as a clerk at Metalton and Eccles company stores. He later worked as an operator of the electric hoist at the Eccles mine. After the mines closed, Doff transitioned to a career with C & P Telephone Company as a cable splicer. He remained with telephone company until his retirement and is a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Doff married Betty Jo Reid in 1947, and together they became active members of Mount Tabor Baptist Church. They served in many church ministries, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served on the church board, and Doff was a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.
In addition to his parents, Doff was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Reid, and was the last living member of his immediate family. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Walter Roy (Thelma), John (Marie), Norman (Grace), Warren (Geraldine), William Franklin (Lois), Virginia Lee Stanley (Charley), and Edna May Tabor (Cecil).
Doff lived a life full of faith, love and devotion, and his passing marks the end of a remarkable journey on earth. He is now in the presence of the Lord, where he has been reunited with loved ones who went before him. His legacy of unwavering faith, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Doff leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Donald and wife Ruth of Huntington, WV; Douglas and wife Rebecca of Harper Heights, WV; Darrell and wife Jamie of Prosperity, WV.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristie Warden and husband Benny of Beckley, WV; Mike Patton and wife Alicia of South Point, OH; Mark Patton and wife Tricia of Gallipolis, OH; Melissa Holt and husband Brian of Leesburg, Ga; Stephanie Todd and husband Shad of Madison, WV, Melody Spencer and husband Steven of Huntington, WV; Courtney Skelton and husband Chris of Marion, Il, and Juliana Huff and husband Rusty of Prosperity WV.
He is further blessed by his great grandchildren: Dr. Alexandria Arthur and husband Jesse of Beckley, WV; Madison Todd of Dupuyer, MT; Alexis Click and husband Caleb of Lynchburg, VA; Josiah Patton of Huntington, WV; Grace Todd of Baltimore, MD; Hannah Patton of Huntington, WV; Braylon Arvon of Prosperity, WV; Reid Warden of Beckley, WV; Seth Patton of Gallipolis, OH; Bella Skelton of Marion, IL; Ryleigh Spencer of Huntington, WV; Audrey Holt of Leesburg, Ga; McKenna Spencer of Huntington, WV; Addison Huff of Prosperity, WV; Zachary Holt of Leesburg, Ga; Savannah Skelton of Marion, Il; Keegan Huff of Prosperity, WV; Levi Holt of Leesburg, Ga; and great-great granddaughter Evelyn Elizabeth-Rae Arthur of Beckley, WV. He is also survived by many nieces’, nephews, and special brother in Christ, Ed Chesley.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to PCH Home Health of Beckley, WV, and Bower’s Hospice House in Cranberry, WV, for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service. A graveside service and burial will take place at Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
