David Lee Blackburn

David Lee Blackburn, 59, of Beckley, WV, passed away on April 18, 2025, at CAMC General Hospital after a sudden and devastating stroke. He was surrounded by his loving family and the music that he was known to enjoy in his final moments.

Born on September 4, 1965, David was the son of William "Steve" Blackburn and the late Margaret Blackburn. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, David spent much of his life working as an autobody repair technician and worked alongside his father in the electrical trade.

Affectionately known as “Big Dave,” he was known for his fun personality, quick wit, and the joy he brought into every room. His presence was marked by laughter, playful mischief, and a love for spending time with family and friends. Whether he was cracking jokes, playing games, or just hanging out listening to music, David had a unique way of bringing people together. To know him was truly to love him.

David had spoken with family and friends about his wishes to be an organ donor. In a final act of generosity, he was able to impact others through organ and tissue donation following his passing.

David is survived by his father, William Blackburn of Beckley; his brother Steve (wife Tonya) Blackburn of Stonewood; his sister Kaitlin Blackburn of Daniels; and his brother Michael Blackburn of Clarksburg. He shared a special bond with his nephew Tyler Blackburn, who was not only family but also an accomplice in cheating at Yahtzee—always ready with a joke or a ride across town. David is also remembered fondly by many dear friends including Stephen “SteveO” Hall, Robert Adkins and a cousin that he was close to Jimmy Lane.

He leaves behind a large and loving extended family including great-aunts, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many close friends who will miss him dearly.

In accordance with David’s wishes, a graveside service and burial will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, WV, with Bishop Phillip Polk officiating. Pallbearers will include Stephen Hall, Bryan Gill, Robert Adkins, Cody Adkins, Kaden Ashby, and Michael Godbey, Sr. Those wishing to participate in the funeral procession are asked to meet at Calfee Funeral Home by 12:15 PM.

David’s life was one marked by love, laughter, and lasting connections. He will be missed beyond measure.
