Charles French Lucas

Charles French Lucas, age 87, of Beckley, WV, passed away December 10, 2024. Affectionately known as “Chuck” he was born February 27, 1937, in Beckley. He was the son of the late Roy and Polly Lucas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Patton; a son Charles F. (Chucker) Lucas, II and a brother, Roy Lucas, Jr. He is survived by a younger brother Van Lucas of Roanoke, VA.

Those left to celebrate his life include his son, Christopher Patton Lucas who provided special and loving care to both his mother and father until their respective deaths.

Chuck was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1955 and during his junior year at Woodrow was chosen by the Kiwanis Club to attend Mountaineer Boys state. There he was elected Governor of Boys state and was the first delegate to ever be elected from Beckley. He later attended Hampden-Sydney College where he graduated with honors in 1959. After his college graduation, he became a sales representative for Kimberly Clark Corporation. After 17 years Chuck and Carolyn decided to return to their hometown and Chuck joined his father Roy and his brother Roy, Jr. in their family firm Lucas General Tire.

Chuck and Carolyn happily shared their time, talents and generosities with their community which included the Beckley Presbyterian Church, the salvation Army, the Raleigh County Library and others.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Beckley Presbyterian Church (203 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, WV 25801). A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. and a reception will follow in the church Fellowship Hall.

Pallbearers will be Chad Hutchinson, Bradley Wartella, Hal Price, Ben Lucas, Robby Wooton and Jeff Mollohan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Mollohan, Guy Shelton, David Baker, Paul Hutchinson, Dan Akers and Charlie Houck.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
