Charles Druie Hambric, Jr., 85, of Beckley, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Bowers Hospice House. Born April 27, 1925 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Charles Druie and Ella Kate Hankla Hambric.
Charles was a retired federal mine inspector. He was a member of Beckley Moose Lodge #1606, Moose Legion, held the Moose Pilgrim degree and ran the WV Moose Youth Awareness Program. He was a past commander of VFW Post 4469, a member of American Legion Post 32, Coal City Order of Eastern Star and MacDonald Warren Masonic Lodge # 103 in Mt. Hope. Charles attended the Chapel at the VA and volunteered for many years at the VA hospital. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II serving in the European Theatre and participated in the invasion of Anzio, Italy. During his military service he received 5 Bronze Stars.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Meadows Hambric, son, Donald Hambric, sisters; Leola Withrow, Doris Chambers, Maxine Williams, Ethel Lilly and Virginia MacNamee and by brothers; Harry, Roy and John Hambric.
Survivors include his son, Douglas Hambric and his wife Susan of Beckley; his grandchildren, Lindsay Williams and her husband T.J. of Morgantown WV, Amber Hambic of Maryland, Ella Hambric of Beckley; his great grandchildren Chase Hambric of Beckley, Emlyn Williams of Morgantown; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hambric of Beckley; special friend Rose Ann Vanover of Beckley, and one sister Helen Leigh of Salem, VA.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 2, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Mark Iobst officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donation be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801 or to a charity of your choice.
