Carolyn Jean Martin, age 74, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas, at a later date.
Carolyn was born on December 30, 1948, in Talcott, West Virginia to Haven and Helen (Gill) Dickson. She was a 1966 graduate of Bluefield High School in Bluefield, WV.
She married Dennis Martin on May 27, 1967, in Washington, D.C. while he was serving in the Army. Together, they shared a lifetime of family and ministry.
She came to know the Lord as her personal Savior on March 13, 1975.
Carolyn shared in Dennis’ ministry serving as a pastor’s wife for many years and sharing her love for studying and teaching the Bible. She spent many hours in prayer for her children and grandchildren, a true gift that will be missed.
Carolyn holds a Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from Louisiana Baptist University, Shreveport, LA. She enjoyed writing her own material for many different Bible studies.
Besides her family, Carolyn enjoyed being at the beach and taking road trips with her husband. She also enjoyed working on her family genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Haven and Helen Dickson; sister, Virginia Leigh Dickson and one brother, Dennis Dickson.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Rev. Dennis Martin of Mount Vernon, Texas; daughters, Melissa Cline and husband, Curtis of Cedarville, Ohio; Dawn Lee Mesnard and husband, Bryan of Denton, Texas; son, Jonathon Martin of Kerrville, Texas. Grandchildren, J. Alexander (Hannah) Cline, Abigail (Mark) McTaggart, Lucas Cline, Carleigh (Jay) Scott, Olivia Lee (Joe) Hendrix, Sophia Lee Martin, and Cameron Haven Layne Martin and great grandchild, Rhett Bryan Scott. She is also survived by one sister, Helen Packard.
The burial will be at Harrah Cemetery in Backus, WV, a family cemetery.
