Bonnie Ruth Whitener, 92, of Beckley, WV was called to Heaven on May 26, 2024. Her journey began at her birthplace of Stone Cliff (Fayette County), WV on March 8,1932 as the youngest of seven children of her proud parents, Roy and Sarah Margaret Shuff. Upon graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1950, she would marry her high school sweetheart Earl and they would soon start a family together. Bonnie was a homemaker and spent her time giving her five children unique and profound perspective and encouragement. Her smile, laugh and straight-forward approach served as an example of how people should deal with their good moments and struggles of life. Those same gifts would later be shared with her eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She actively participated in the ministries at First Baptist Church where she was a member for over 70 years. She was a member of the Beckley Gideon Camp, where she held many offices and passed out Bible testaments to graduating nurses. True love lasts as Bonnie is now reunited with her husband of 72 years, Earl, her son David, her grandson Jeffrey, and other family members who preceded her in death. Left to carry on and cherish her legacy are her children - Steven and wife Susan Kay of Beckley, Susie Belcher and husband Bryan of Beckley, Tom and wife Theresa of South Charleston, and Tim of Charleston; daughter-in-law, Robin of Conway, SC; grandchildren - Stephanie, Matthew, Daniel and wife Becca, Lew, Eric and wife Kristian, Allison and husband Christian, and Blake; great grandchildren – Reagan, Brannon, Josi, Alex, Mason, Brodie, Calyx, Phoenix, Rhys, Dakota and Jackson. Services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Beckley, with Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. Interment will take place at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Beckley Gideon Camp or First Baptist Church. Calfee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
