Billie Jean Shumate, 73, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 following a long illness with her loving family by her side. Born February 10, 1937 in Bramwell, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ancil Cecil and Mary Ethel Rigney Mullens. Billie Jean was a homemaker, a member of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church and attended Memorial Baptist Church. She had been a resident of Beckley for the past 57 years.
Survivors include her husband, E.D. “Felix” Shumate of Charleston, sons; Greg Shumate and wife Pam of Branchland, WV and Mark Shumate of Windermere, FL, daughters; Susan Hargett and Karla Long and husband Scott of Beckley, grandchildren; Chad, Brad, Dustin, Jonathan, Will and Daniel Shumate, Steven Hargett, Matthew Long, Klara Drenen, Sarah Gabbard, step-grandchildren; Jennifer, Emily and Bobby Cantrell, great-grandchildren; Ava and Ian Shumate, Maia Drennen, Brisco Long, Isaiah and Jeremiah Gabbard. The family would like to give a special thank you to Diane O’Dell, Vickie Stewart and Hospice of Southern WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Metrick officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
