Billie Gene Whetsel

Our beloved husband, Daddy, and Poppy passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born December 21, 1930 at Dunbar, VA he was the son of the late Floyd Robert Lee and Virgie Edna Byrd Whetsel.
Billie was a preparation plant operator for 43 years for Westmoreland Coal Company and Maben Energy. He held the office of treasurer for Local Union 5955 for 20+ years. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. His love of animals especially cats was well known. Billie felt his greatest accomplishment was his family who he loved dearly and was so very proud.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother JD Whetsel and wife Wilma, father and mother in law George and Glenna Wolfe, sister in law Stephanie Wolfe Bonney, and son in law Ronald Otis Ballard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years Armita Wolfe Whetsel , two daughters Tawnna Edwards and husband Roger, Lisa Fondale and husband Phillip, two grandsons, Dr. Devin Edwards and wife Misti, Dr. Landon Edwards and wife Emilee, three great grandchildren Bridget, Peyton, and Carter Edwards and niece and nephew Sandra and Randy Whetsel.
Funeral services will be conducted at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 1 pm with Pastors Thomas Shepherd and Josh Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am until service time at 1 pm.
Pall Bearers will be sons in law, Roger Edwards and Phillip Fondale, grandsons Devin Edwards and Landon Edwards, nephew Randy Whetsel, and family friend David Fondale. Honorary pall bearers are James Fain, Herbert Henderson, and William Coughlin.
