Beulah Burke Thurman

Beulah Burke Thurman, 88, of Beckley, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the home of her son David Thurman. Born November 2, 1920 in Mabscott, WV, she was the daughter of the late Zeharich and Nellie Long Bennett. Beulah was a loving mother and home maker. She was a former bookkeeper for Thurman’s Garage, hostess for Burger Chef and cook at Park Junior High School. She also worked for the Census Bureau, Raleigh County Library and Raleigh County Court House. Beulah was a member of the First Baptist Church, Beckley. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenith Gilmer Thurman, sons; Kenneth Lee Thurman, Randall Paul Thurman, daughters; Carol Faye Sweeney and Sandra Kay Hanks.
She is survived by her daughter, Lera Linville and husband Joe of Beckley, son, David Thurman and wife Lisa of Crab Orchard, thirteen grandchildren; Nancy Paugh, Brittany, Matt, Bryan, Drew, Kelli, Joe, Jr., Larry, Tammy, Timmy, Tommy, Danny Lee, and Dorsey, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St., Beckley with Dr. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Calfee Cemetery at Mt. Tabor. Friends may call at the Calfee Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and at the church one hour prior to service on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren; Joe Linville, Jr., Larry Linville, Dorsey Sweeney, Drew Thurman, Bryan Meadows and Matt Thurman.
