Betty Ethel Thompson

Betty E. Thompson, 87, of Beckley, WV passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 11, 2023.  Betty was born April 28, 1936 in Lillybrook, WV.  She was the daughter of the late William and Lula Jane Rutledge.

She is preceded in death by her brothers William “Billy”, Donald, Roger, and Bobby Rutledge; sisters June Meadows and Joann Pruett.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years, Nicholas A. Thompson of Beckley, her children Alicia D. Thompson of Stafford, VA and Nicholas A. Thompson, Jr.  and his wife Beth of Sophia, WV.   Her three grandchildren Michael Staton of Stafford, VA, Zachary Thompson and his wife Mara of Kenna, WV, and Holly Del Toro and her husband Brice of Long Island, NY.  Her two great-granddaughters, Zyla Thompson and Charlotte Staton.  She is survived by her brother-in-law, Joe Calvert of Vero Beach, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was a member of the Sophia United Methodist Church. She graduated from Beckley Beauty Academy (1983). Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved spending time with her family and friends. Betty was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed hosting family dinners.   

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Rumberg officiating.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
