Arnold Ray “Sonny” Mitchell, 82, of Beckley, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at his residence under the care of Hospice of Southern WV. Born March 25, 1927 at Sprague, he was the son of the late William Jackson and Sue Stump Mitchell. He was a store manager for a number of G.C. Murphy stores in West Virginia and Kentucky for a period of forty years. Arnold was a graduate of Stoco High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of American Legion Post 32 and attended Memorial Baptist Church. He had been a resident of Beckley for the past thirty years.
Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Eva Irene Reed Mitchell, daughter, Karen Diehl and husband Larry of Seminole, FL, son, Mark Mitchell and fianc, Alicia Burdette of Beckley, grandchildren, Kristen and Charlie Diehl of Seminole, FL.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Blizzard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Monday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard.
