Armita Dawn Wolfe Whetsel, 90, of Crab Orchard, passed from this life to eternal life with God on Saturday, November 19 after a long illness. Born on October 11, 1932, in Big Stick, she was the daughter of the late George Lewis and Glenna Stephens Wolfe. In addition to her parents Armita was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Billie, sister Stephanie Peak Bonney, son in law Ronald Otis Ballard, and nephew Matthew Bonney.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Tawnna Edwards (Roger) , Lisa Ballard Fondale (Phillip) both of Crab Orchard; grandsons Devin Edwards (Misti) of Morristown, TN, Landon Edwards (Emilee) of Marietta, OH; great grandchildren Bridget and Peyton Edwards of Morristown, TN and Carter and Reese Edwards of Marietta, OH; brother Richard Wolfe and wife Thelma (special friend as well as sister in law) of Bonaire, GA; niece Anderia Peak Moore; nephews Randy Whetsel, Edwin, Stephen, and Dorian Wolfe, and Mark Peak.
Armita was a devoted wife, mother, and MiMi. She was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church. Mom sent her high school years in Tams attending Mark Twain High School. In June of 1949 she married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life Billie. Mom’s ambition was to be a nurse. Though she did not become a nurse Mom spent her life caring for others including her parents, aunts Margaret Wolfe Gignac and Zilpha Stephens Maher, and beloved husband Billie. She considered her greatest accomplishments being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, loving daughter, sister, and being a trusted loyal friend.
Armita was a homemaker, enjoyed reading, writing, and maintaining beautiful flower gardens until sustaining injuries from a near fatal accident caused by a drunk driver in 1985.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Kay Alderman, Georgia cm Osborne, and Anita Reid for your loving and devoted care of Mom. We are eternally grateful that Mom was able to spend her final days in her home surrounded by love. It would not have been possible without your loving care.
